Daun sirih (Piper betle L.) diketahui mengandung senyawa aktif seperti fenol dan flavonoid yang berpotensi menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri.Tujuan: Mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak etanol daun sirih terhadap jumlah koloni S. mutans dalam biofilm plak gigi secara in vitro.Metode: Penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan desain post-test only control group. Biofilm S. mutans dikultur pada media brain heart infusion (BHI) dan dibagi menjadi kelompok kontrol (akuades), klorheksidin 0,12% (pembanding), dan perlakuan dengan ekstrak etanol daun sirih pada konsentrasi 10%, 20%, dan 30%. Abstrak:Latar belakang: Infeksi pascabedah merupakan salah satu komplikasi yang sering terjadi pada prosedur bedah maksilofasial. Salah satu langkah penting dalam menurunkan risiko infeksi adalah tindakan asepsis oral praoperatif. Obat kumur antiseptik seperti Klorheksidin Diglukonat 0,12% dan Povidon Iodin 1% sering digunakan untuk mengurangi jumlah koloni bakteri dalam rongga mulut.Tujuan: Mengetahui dan membandingkan efektivitas Klorheksidin Diglukonat 0,12% dan Povidon Iodin 1% terhadap penurunan jumlah koloni bakteri pada rongga mulut pasien pra-bedah maksilofasial.Metode: Penelitian eksperimental dengan desain pretest-posttest control group. Sampel terdiri dari 30 pasien yang akan menjalani bedah maksilofasial, dibagi secara acak menjadi dua kelompok: kelompok A menggunakan Klorheksidin 0,12% dan kelompok B menggunakan Povidon Iodin 1%. Sampel saliva diambil sebelum dan sesudah berkumur selama 30 detik, lalu dikultur pada media agar untuk menghitung jumlah koloni bakteri (CFU/mL).Hasil: Kedua kelompok menunjukkan penurunan jumlah koloni bakteri secara signifikan (p<0,05). Namun, penurunan lebih besar ditemukan pada kelompok yang menggunakan Klorheksidin Diglukonat 0,12%.Kesimpulan: Klorheksidin…
